The COMBATE industrial research project begins

The COMBATE project, supported by the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) through the 2025 Science and Innovation Missions Programme (File No. MIG-20251019), has as its main objective the research of innovative technological pathways for the production of sustainable synthetic fuels, produced safely, more efficiently, and cost[1]effectively, aimed at the maritime transport sector. Through the development of renewable energy carriers, the initiative promotes a strategic transformation of the sector, making a decisive contribution to emissions reduction. Its proposal is directly aligned with several of the Sustainable Development Goals, fostering the decarbonization of the economy to achieve climate neutrality targets by 2050, by promoting clean energy, more efficient processes, and circular solutions, while also generating skilled employment and consolidating an innovative, competitive industrial ecosystem aligned with the ecological transition.

The project will be carried out simultaneously in three autonomous communities of Spain (Madrid, Andalucía, and País Vasco), ensuring technological synergies and strengthening national scientific capabilities.

On February 4, the kick-off meeting of the COMBATE project was held at the headquarters of EAG (Empresarios Agrupados – GHESA), the project coordinator. The meeting brought together all project partners (SISTEM, H2SITE, H2B2, SKV, IBERDROLA, and EAG) as well as subcontracted research organizations (Loyola University, Tecnalia, UPM, and EHU).

During the session, the project’s objectives, scope, and work plan were presented, laying the foundations for collaboration among the partners in the development of sustainable synthetic fuels aimed at maritime transport.
